Lift up your Spirit with Israeli Folk Music

Want to recall the joy and inspiration of your holy land pilgrimage?  Put 25 Most Famous Israeli Folk Songs into your CD player while you’re whipping down the freeway and sing along with Israel’s most popular artists.

To recreate the atmosphere of your tour, play From the Bible for Revival and remember your exciting entry into the Holy City.  Or play some Israel folk music
while you’re trying your hand at falafel or hummus.  Pick up your mood by playing “Jerusalem of Gold” or “Hallelujah.” featured on both CDs.

Each CD comes with a booklet of transliterated lyrics and translations into English.  You'll find yourself singing along like a native.  Both 25 Most Famous Israeli Folk Songs and From the Bible for Revival play for one hour with 25 songs each.

From the Bible for Revival CD of Israeli folk music

From the Bible for Revival has songs in both Hebrew and English.  Here's a selection:

  • Jerusalem of Gold
  • Hava Nagila medley
  • On Holy Ground
  • The Holy City
  • Hallelujah
  • A medley of Hassidic melodies
  • 3-minute instrumental of Fiddler on the Roof
  • David King of Israel medley
  • Meshiach (Messiah)
  • Israeli Hora medley
  • Shalom Haverim
  • Hatikva (Israel's national anthem)

My favorite song on this CD is “Toda,” which means “thank you.”  A rough translation goes like this: “Thank you for all that you created.  Thank you for all that you gave, for the light of eyes, a friend or two.  For all that is in the world.  For a simple song. A forgiving heart.  Because of them I exist.”

My favorite song on the "25 Most Famous..." CD is "Dror Yikra" which is sung with a Yemenite accent.  It's a song of prayer.  A rough translation is that the Lord will bless those who follow him faithfully.  He will give them freedom and peace.  It's a very spirited song and you have to dance when you sing it -- or at least wave your fingers!

Coming to Jerusalem in 2008?  Does the hustle and bustle of the market give you a high, yet you would like some quiet moments in the holy sites?  Would you like to climb Jerusalem's roof-top towers with the most rewarding views humming your repertoire of Israeli folk songs?  Are you eager to eat humus and kubbeh elbow-to-elbow with the "natives" as Israeli music blares in the background?

Gila's Guide will lift up your spirit as you "Explore Jerusalem's Soul."  The just released up-to-date PDF (Adobe Acrobat) 47-page guide gives you the Top Ten places to meditate on the Bible, the Top Ten lesser-known churches worth visiting, the Top Ten most rewarding roof-top views and the Top Ten places for yummy Middle Eastern soul food.  More on Gila's Guide....
