"SING TO THE LORD WHO DWELLS IN ZION
PROCLAIM HIS DEEDS AMONG THE PEOPLES"
PSALM 9:11

|

Since the time of David, pilgrims have been singing
the praises of Jerusalem. Here are a selection
of songs that you and your group may want to sing on
arrival in the Holy City and on the Holy Sites. |

Marching to Zion
Come, we that love the Lord
And let our joys be known
Join in a song with sweet accord (2)
And thus surround the throne. (2)
Chorus:
We're marching to Zion
Beautiful, beautiful Zion
We're marching upward to Zion
The beautiful city of God.
Let those refuse to sing
Who never knew our God
But children of the heavenly King (2)
May speak their joys abroad (2) |

Looking at the Temple Mount from
the Mount of Olives |
Chorus
The hill of Zion yields
A thousand sacred sweets
Before we reach the heavenly fields, (2)
Or walk the golden streets (2)
Chorus
Then let our songs abound
And every tear be dry
We're marching thru Immanuel's ground (2)
To fairer worlds on high (2) |

Psalm 48
Great is the Lord, greatly to be praised
In the city of our God
In the mountain of his holiness.
Beautiful for situation
The joy of the whole earth
Is Mount Zion on the sides of the north,
The city of our great King. |
Jerusalem, Jerusalem
Jerusalem, Jerusalem
Lift up your gates and sing
Hosanna in the highest
Hosanna in the highest
Hosanna to your King
Hosanna to your King.

Pilgrim Prayer
on seeing Jerusalem for the first time (or
the first time in a while)
Baruch Ata Adonai, Elohanu Melech HaOlam,
Shehehiyanu, VeKiyemanu Ve Higiyanu, Lazman
Hazeh. Amen.
Praised be Thou O Lord our God, King of the
Universe, who has preserved us, sustained us
and enabled us to reach this joyous
occasion. Amen.
This Jewish prayer is recited on many
special occasions – the first night of
Chanukah, at the Passover Seder and parents
recite it at the bar or bat mitzvah ceremony
of their thirteen-year-old. It is
appropriate to recite the “shehehiyanu” at
first sight of the Holy City.
